Harare, Zimbabwe — The Swiss Support to Arts Development in Zimbabwe (#SSADZA) Fund is pleased to announce the final awardees of the second (2nd) #SSADZA Fund Open Call, following a thorough review and consideration of feedback on the selection process.
The 2nd call for proposals, launched on July 18, 2025, and closed on August 31, 2025, attracted a remarkable 124 applicants from various artistic disciplines. The aim was to support new and innovative creative projects that showcase performances, exhibitions, and events, while ensuring compliance with the Fund’s objectives.
Selected Individual Awardees
The following individuals have been selected as beneficiaries of the #SSADZA Fund:
- Tinotenda Marcus Mutanga – Visual Arts
- Angela Jimu – Photography
- Fungie Chana – Dance
- Tawanda Chari – Music
- Ruvimbo Mapanda – Music
- Pauline Ndhlovu – Literature
- Rutendo Denise Mutsamwira – Literature
- Edith Masango – Theatre
- Thomas Muziyirwa – Film (Documentary)
- Andrew Muroyiwa – Film
Selected Organisational Awardees
The organisations awarded funding are as follows:
- Chengetedza Artist Collective – Fashion
- Matobo Arts and Cultural Festival – Performing Arts (Various)
- Vutivi Initiative – Photography
- Afrikera Arts Trust – Dance
Selection Process
The selection process involved a meticulous screening to identify projects that align with the Fund’s objectives, focusing on creativity and showcasing potential. This process led to a curated pool of 62 projects, covering various artistic disciplines including music, visual arts, theatre, dance, film, and literature.
Insights from the Applications
The applications showcased a significant emphasis on community development, education, and youth empowerment, whilst reflecting the vibrant artistic landscape in Zimbabwe. Notably, music and visual arts represented the strongest themes, while projects addressing social issues such as mental health and climate change demonstrated the sector’s commitment to cultural and social advocacy.
The final selection of awardees embodies a balance of individual and organisational representation, artistic diversity, and a commitment to nurturing the future of Zimbabwe’s cultural landscape.
